Liverpool’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori could be in danger as Barcelona are also interested in signing him.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Camp Nou club are interested in signing the 20-year-old defender as they look for further reinforcement of their back line this summer.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly reignited his interest in Ilori after Sebastian Coates was ruled out long-term after suffering cruciate ligament damage while playing for Uruguay.
A report in the Mirror claims the Anfield club had an initial offer of £3million rejected in May, but will now return with an improved offer following the injury to Coates.
However, the Mundo Deportivo report claims Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino is keen on the promising defender, which could scupper any possible move for the Merseyside club.
Although billed as cover for Coates, interest in Ilori may also have been influenced by Napoli’s recent bid for Martin Skrtel, which was rejected by Liverpool.
