Jose Mourinho has been sent a clear warning by Manchester United's Jonny Evans that his famous mind games will not faze the United squad, as the sides clash in the first blockbuster match of the season on Monday night.
Mourinho had previously claimed that Manchester United had only won last year's title because of the weak nature of the Premier League, and Evans believes that Mourinho is just trying to rile the United squad ahead of their encounter.
The United centre-back told reporters: "We don't read too much into that kind of thing and, as players, we laugh that kind of thing off.
"It's all just mind games, really. It's maybe his way of trying to unsettle us."
Chelsea have been installed as early favourites for the Premier League title after the return of Mourinho, and after two wins from two they are the early pace-setters.
However Evans believes that there will be more than just the usual suspects challenging at the top, and expects a much more competitive league this time around.
"There are other teams around who can have a big impact on the league and, you never know, another team could surprise us.
"There's a lot of competition out there and every team has a lot of quality. Spurs have spent a lot of money, so it's going to be a good, open season."
United enjoyed a great start to the season as they beat Swansea City 4-1 last weekend and will hope to follow that victory up with a win at Old Trafford against the Blues.
