Spurs looked to have sealed a deal for the 23-year-old earlier in the window only for Steaua Bucharest's imprisoned owner Gig Becali to pull the plug because of what he perceived as arrogance from the north London club.
Now it appears as through the deal is back on, with reports in Romania suggesting that Spurs have agreed a €10 million fee to be paid in two instalments - half now and the rest next summer. The defender will earn a reported €30,000-per-week.
Spurs look short of options at the back following the departure of William Gallas who was released at the end of last season, and Steven Caulker who was sold to Cardiff City.
Ajax's Toby Alderweireld has been touted as a potential target for Spurs but it appears as though they have made landing Chiriches their priority.
The Romanian international, who has made 100 appearances for Steaua Bucharest to date, is rated as one of the brightest young defensive prospects in Europe and starred for his side in the Europa League against Chelsea last season.
