32-year-old Carrick is a vital cog in the title-winning machine at Old Trafford. His admirable ball retention, extensive range of passing and sheer work ethic are all crucial elements of the club's continued success at domestic level, and he has been a near ever-present for the Red Devils in recent years.
While it is probably true that Carrick receives more praise now then he has previously, there is certainly still an argument to suggest that, for the important role he fulfils, it is still not nearly enough.
His underrated reputation largely stems from a frustrating international career with England. Despite being one of the country's premier midfielders, Carrick has often been criminally overlooked by Three Lions managers and has only 29 caps to his name since making his debut against Mexico in 2001.
