Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski is in talks with Schalke over a season-long loan move, according to the London Metro.
The 28-year-old Germany international only arrived in north London in a £10million deal from Cologne last summer, but after struggling to establish himself in the first-team is open to a short-term transfer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will allow Podolski to leave the Emirates Stadium as he looks to cement his place in the national squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, having not been able to guarantee the player regular football in the Premier League.
Schalke are willing to pay Arsenal all of Podolski's £100,000-a-week wages in 2013/14, by which point he'll have just two years to run on his contract.
Having also attracted interest from Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur, the former Bayern Munich star will opt for a return to his homeland, where he has played for the majority of his career.
With Spurs and Galatasaray only interested in signing Podolski on a permanent basis, a loan move to Schalke is favourable for both player and club, with the possibility of a return to Arsenal on the cards again next summer.
