With the departure of Gareth Bale becoming increasingly likely, Tottenham have lined up Roma winger Erik Lamela as an ideal replacement, according to reports.
Reports can confirm that Willian was Tottenham's original top replacement, but it appears that he is now set to join Chelsea after their late hijack, paving the way for the Lamela deal to be struck.
Spurs have already bolstered their squad significantly this summer, with the purchases of Etienne Capoue, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado.
The Lilywhites originally broke their transfer record this summer with the £17m deal for ex-Corinthians star, Paulinho, which was later beaten again through the £25m purchase of prolific goalscorer, Roberto Soldado.
Spurs look set to break their transfer record for the third time this summer, with Italian reports indicating that a £31m deal is near to complete.
The Argentine can add a whole new dimension to Tottenham's style of play, in which can provide more goals for the club as he can play as a playmaker, producing Soldado's goals, or can play alongside the Spaniard as a striker.
According to reports, Lamela's younger brother tweeted stating how the Roma winger is likely to be heading to England this summer. Sources suggest he is going to sign a six-year deal with Spurs, as they try to fill the void of Bale.
Living up the credentials of Bale will prove to be difficult for Lamela, but at only 21 years old, he has plenty of time to develop into a world-class player.
Tipped to be the "Argentine Cristiano Ronaldo", Lamela could prove to be an asset to Spurs and could help them surge on as a title contender for the upcoming season.
