Angel di Maria is another player who has been added to Arsene Wenger's fast growing shortlist in the past few weeks. But with only nine days to go until the transfer window closes Wenger will have to act fast to get his man.
The Argentine winger is one of many players on the radar of Arsenal, with his trickery and vision surely a big factor as to why Wenger is prepared to bid for the talented 25-year-old.
Real Madrid will not be likely to sell the Winger unless Arsenal bid a minimum of £26m according to reports. Wenger told BBC Sport on Wednesday: "Quality wise we do not need, but numbers wise we are short,"
He added: "We lost Arteta and Diaby. We are without three international midfielders. We will try and bring one in but we are working on that. What you have to understand is that there is still a long way to go."
"The transfer market really starts now, a lot of activity will happen between now and 2 September. We have 12 days. A lot will happen. It starts now."
The injuries leave Arsenal short of numbers in midfield which is more of a reason for the Arsenal boss to invest in new talent such as Di Maria.
Di Maria, an Argentina international, has scored 25 goals and provided 47 assists in 138 appearances for Real Madrid.
