The Washington Capitals have successfully agreed terms with forward Mikhail Grabovski.

Grabovski spent the past five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, before being bought out late last season. The one year $3 million contract is in my opinion quite a deal for the Capitals.

It also comes as quite a surprise, considering that there was much speculation of Grabovski joining the KHL or Swiss league. However, now that Grabovski is signed, the Washington Capitals can continue preparing for this upcoming season. And Mikhail Grabovski has plenty to offer his new team.

He’s got speed, great puck handling skills, and most importantly continues to improve his skills within the faceoff circle. I believe Grabovski success in the faceoff circle in the past is why the Capitals chose to sign him.

I know the Capitals do have Niklas Backstrom, but with the departure of Mike Ribero, the team doesn't really have much strength or consistency in the faceoff circle. However, Grabovski will certainly help improve in this area.

I believe this was a very strategic, vital signing for the Washington Capitals. Grabovski will be getting a lot more ice time in this upcoming season. I’m sure he will be placed on the second powerplay unit and possibly the first penalty killing unit as well.

I feel this is exactly what Grabovski needs to improve his game. This is his chance to become one of the star players of this young team. I’m sure it won’t take long for the new signing  to have a positive impact on his team. I can’t wait to see how the Washington Capitals do in the upcoming season.
