After missing out on Brazilian target Willian, Brendan Rodgers had again been left frustrated. It now leaves Liverpool with little time remaining to add to their squad before the closure of the transfer window.

The Northern Irish manager is confident however that further activity will take place before the deadline, as he looks to further strengthen areas of his squad.

After targeting Willian, Rodgers showed clear indication of adding to his attacking options, which was again evident earlier in the window after bidding for Atletico Madrid winger, Diego Costa. Having sold Stewart Downing to West Ham, Liverpool need to add width to their squad, with Raheem Sterling the only recognisable winger in the roster.

Teenager Jordon Ibe is also an additional option but Rodgers will be keen to add experience and depth in the wide areas. Arda Turan has been linked with a move to the Premier League after his agent claimed it is likely the Turkish winger could play in England this season, and Rodgers may see Turan as a potential target.

Following the news that Sebastian Coates is set to miss the majority of the season, Liverpool will also be looking to strengthen their defensive options. Rodgers has also stated that no bid has been made for Martin Skrtel and that he has no intentions of selling the Slovakian, yet a question mark remains over the defender’s future at the club.

Kolo Toure began his Liverpool career well and looks set to be the long term partner to Daniel Agger, with Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly capable of filling in at the back. Kyriakos Papadopoulos has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer and Schalke have reportedly “admitted defeat” in retaining the services of the 21-year old Greek.

Interest in Sporting Lisbon youngster Thiago Ilori has also reportedly been reignited following the lengthy spell on the sidelines for Coates.

Rodgers may also be keen to add to his options in the centre of midfield and provide cover for Steven Gerrard and Lucas following the departure of Jonjo Shelvey.

Derby wonder-kid Will Hughes has been linked with a move to his favourite club after reports suggesting the Reds were set to offer £10 million for the England U21 international. However, Derby boss Nigel Clough is confident Hughes will continue playing for the Championship side this season.

Liverpool have also recently recruited full back Aly Cissokho to the squad on a year-long loan deal, adding cover and competition to Jose Enrique. Now Rodgers will be anticipating some last minute deals including that marquee signing fans have been hoping for, ahead of that all-important deadline on September 2nd.
