Everton were left frustrated as Goodison Park played out a goalless draw between the hosts and West Bromwich Albion.

The Toffees started the better and had a lot of the possession but couldn't find an end product.

An early header from Steven Pienaar and a Kevin Mirallas shot were all the Blues really had to show for all their possession.

West Brom played deep and allowed Everton to play but their defending was very solid. And, there were not really any chances for West Brom in the first half, as Everton defended admirably.

The second-half saw more chances for both teams, especially Everton. Ross Barkley struck a sweet left-foot shot from the edge of the box and Marouane Fellaini couldn't turn in the rebound.

Mirallas again cut inside from the left hand side but his tame shot was straight a Ben Foster.

The hosts nearly paid the price for not scoring as a James Morrison shot from 15 yards brought Tim Howard into his first save of the afternoon.

Some sloppy play by Steven Naismith saw an excellent snap-shot by Shane Long, but Howard was equal to it agaib.

West Brom were forced into a goalkeeping change as the excellent Foster then limped off.

Fellaini chested down a brilliant Phil Jagielka ball in the box, poked it towards goal only for the ball to hit the inside of the post and roll to an Albion player.

Aroune Kone nearly stole a goal as West Brom struggled to clear their lines, only for reserve keeper Luke Daniels to smother it into his grateful arms.

West Brom suffered a 90th minute scare when Seamus Coleman's cross went over Daniels and hit the bar. Everton also had an unsuccessful penalty appeal when Barkley's shot hit Billy Jones.

The spoils were shared and it will be Everton boss Roberto Martinez who is most disappointed.
