Arsenal's dismal Premier League opening day defeat at the hands of Aston Villa prompted subsequent outcries from fans who are visibly desperate to see new signings at the Emirates Stadium before the close of the current transfer window. 

One name being persistently linked with a switch to North London at present is Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. If the 25-year-old were to make the move to the Gunners, he would be continuing a fine, long-standing tradition of French players to have made their mark with Arsenal since manager Arsene Wenger took the managerial reins back in 1996.
