Tottenham Hotspur suffered a major setback in this transfer window when Chelsea stole Brazilian midfielder Willian from right under their noses. Until now it was a successful window for Spurs, who have mastered the transfer game and brought in quality players all over the park.
Willian was seen as a player to make up for Gareth Bale's imminent departure. Willian's move to Chelsea might have dented Spurs' perfect transfer window little bit, but still they have done the best job in this window by far and Chelsea pulling the plug on a Spurs target shows their desperation and the fear of Tottenham's arrival on the big stage.
Spurs are in the market now looking for one or two players to make up for the loss of Bale and a few upgrades in other areas of the pitch.
Of the players linked with Spurs, Eric Lamela, will be someone who can soothe Spurs fans with his playing style and potential. Brazilian international Hulk has also been linked with the club to replace the Welsh wizard Bale, who might be on his way to Madrid soon.
Lamela might be better suited to Spurs' style of play and will be worthy addition with age and potential on his side. The same cannot be said about Zenit St.Petersburg winger Hulk.
Hulk lacks the pace, which is absolutely essential for a winger in the frenetic Premier League. His preference to opt for his left foot in almost all the scenarios might also hamper Spurs' free-flowing style as well.
Working with manger Andre Villas-Boas in his Porto side might have helped him to reach high levels, but there isn't much left in Hulk to improve further to fulfill the requirements of a Premier League winger. His physical attributes can come in handy, but to reach those positions with his figure he might need to fine tune his playing style.
A youngster trying to make a mark in a big team will be ready to make some sacrifices to achieve his targets. Hulk is no youngster andaAlso he earns healthy sum in wages. Tottenham meeting those demands would be an unnecessarily risk which is just not worth the gamble, especially if they have to meet the transfer fee demands raised by his club.
Hulk is a top player without any doubt, but in general his arrival will not help Spurs to improve their standards as expected in the case of a big money signing. It would be better for Spurs to look for other alternatives than to bring in someone like Hulk.
