Liverpool have started the season in fine form result wise with two wins from two and consecutive clean sheets to boot. But can they really challenge for a top four spot?
Liverpool's defence has started the season in great form without conceding a goal, which is largely due to the performances of new signings Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure who have both been great acquisitions from Sunderland and Manchester City respectively. Liverpool were shaky at the back last season against the smaller teams and this improvement will surely help them in their push to finally reclaim a spot in the Champions League.
In midfield, Brendan Rodgers is still trying to mold his team into a slicker passing outfit. Last season, the poor chemistry between the midfield and defence often lead to balls been given away and goals being scored against them because of mistakes. This year, however, with their new signings and new shining light in the shape of Philippe Coutinho, they have begun to look a real threat while playing some beautiful football.
Liverpool's last area which has improved greatly with the signing is in attack. The signing of Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window eased the burden on Luis Suarez, who was being relied upon too heavily and the pressure eventually got to his head.
Although the Premier League title still looks beyond them, if Liverpool can hold onto Suarez and also keep Sturridge fit and healthy, then their chances of becoming a real chaser for a top-four spot look very good.
