If Real Madrid complete the signing of Gareth Bale as expected this week, they will have the best attacking combination in world football.
The arrival of the Welsh winger would also go some way to stealing the thunder from Barcelona this summer, after they secured the signing of the much-coveted Neymar from Santos in the early stages of the window.
There is little doubt that Spain is now the place to play football, with La Liga gaining an edge on the Premier League. And, the arrival of Bale would see arguably the four best players on the planet competing in the same division.
That narrows down to just two teams, with Real Madrid and Barcelona head-and-shoulders above the rest domestically. They were before the signings of Neymar and Bale (presumably), so the gap between the big two and the rest is likely to be greater than ever.
The obvious question is which team is better? Barca won the league last season, and so the answer at this stage is them, irrespective of the signings.
But, perhaps a more intriguing question, is which combination is better - Ronaldo and Bale or Messi and Neymar?
As already stated, it's my opinion that the combination in the Spanish capital is better than the one in Catalonia.
This is for a number of reasons, the most important of which is Bale's brilliance in the Premier League compared to Neymar's form in the Brazilian top flight.
In England, Bale has played against top quality defences week-in, week-out. He's made key contributions when it matters, created goals and scored goals for his team.
Neymar has done much the same in Brazil, but the standard is simply incomparable. The youngster has scored a bucket load in recent seasons, but his durability will be tested against some stern Spanish defences.
He could rise to the challenge of course, and many will be expecting him to do so. But, the edge must surely go to Bale at this stage.
And, his style of play combined with Ronaldo gives them the edge over Messi and Neymar.
All four players are match-winners, but there is just something about Bale and Ronaldo operating together which makes them the better force. Both are strong runners with the ball, incredible set-piece specialists and have plenty of aerial ability.
Messi is the best player in the world, and Barca have been over-resilient on the Argentinian international in the past. Neymar should take some of the pressure off the playmaker.
But, Bale can be trusted more than the Brazilian, and will expect to play a greater role sooner rather than later. He's a guaranteed starter at the Bernabeu (as you'd expect for £80million), where as Neymar probably isn't.
In reality, it all comes down to preference. Many prefer Ronaldo to Messi, despite his four FIFA Ballon d'Or awards. I think Messi is the better player of that particular pair, with Bale trumping Neymar.
However you see it, the first El Clasico is sure to be a game to remember this season.
