Police were forced to suspend a match in Paraguay over the weekend after a referee was assaulted by a player, who delivered a flying kick to the official's face following an unsavoury on-field melee.
During the Liga Regional del Sud clash between Coronel Romero and Porvenir, tempers flared in the 71st minute when a kamikaze tackle resulted in a red card for Aldo Olmedo.
Disputing the decision, one of Olmedo's Porvenir team-mates was also sent off, after an angry appeal saw him square up to the ref, prompting a second dismissal in a matter of seconds.
Cue a collective Porvenir charge, with a number of players running towards the man in the middle, in an attempt to express their displeasure at having been reduced to nine men, 2-0 down against Coronel Romero, and with 20 minutes of the game still to play.
However, one player took his appeal too far, flying in with a kung-fu kick, that planted square in the face of the referee.
A truly disgusting and cowardly act, check it out in the video above, and feel free to leave a suggestion for a suitable punishment/suspension for the player in the comment box provided.
