Arsenal must spend despite good results

Arsenal still need to spend big to contend despite emphatic wins in their last two games against tough opposition.

Arsenal started the Premier League season with a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa but since then they've beaten Fenerbahce 3-0 in their Champions League play-off first leg and Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage in the Premier League over the weekend.

Wenger still needs to add quality signings to his squad in order to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham.

With Karim Benzema only being allowed to leave Real Madrid for £40m if the Spanish giants find a suitable replacement in Luis Suarez, Arsenal may have to turn their attention to Swansea striker Michu who's netted 18 times in 36 appearances since joining the Welsh club.

The Arsenal boss is also on the hunt for a new goalkeeper with Polish keeper Wojciech Szczęsny not always performing for the Gunners.

Arsenal are targeting the Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano as a solution to the club’s goal-keeping problems. It is likely he'll become available for between £4-5m.

Wenger also needs to add a new defender and midfielder to the Arsenal side with injuries causing problems for the Londoners.

The London club recently had a £10m bid rejected by Newcastle for midfielder Cabaye and the Tyneside club have told Arsenal he will cost £20m if they want to secure his services.

With Thomas Vermaelen injured and with Laurent Koscielny suspended, Wenger will need to act quick to secure the signing of a defender. The Gunners have been linked with Swansea and Wales captain Ashley Williams, who will help to add depth and control in defence and will cost in the region of £10m to capture his signature.

Another player could also be on his way out of the Emirates with forward Lukas Podolski being linked with a move to German side Schalke despite his two goal against Fulham, which is more of a reason for Arsenal to act fast in the transfer market.
