With the signing of Willian, Jose Mourinho potentially has an astonishing seven players to fill the three attacking midfield positions in Chelsea’s formation.

Personally, the Willian signing has left me rather puzzled and a bit frustrated, in the sense that all the speculation seems to be towards Juan Mata leaving the club. While Jose Mourinho states that Mata is not going anywhere, I can’t help but feel like that isn't the case.

There is no doubting the capabilities of 25-year-old Brazilian, but could his talent equal the same amount of production Mata has produced in the past two seasons. Surly that is a question to be answered in the future, but in the meantime where does that leave Mata.

With the World Cup only a season away, Juan Mata needs a season of certainty rather than a season of inconsistent playing time, to have any sort of chance of becoming a regular starter for Spain before they leave to Brazil next summer.  This could be hard to come by for Mata knowing that newly signed Willian and possibly Kevin De Bruyne look to be favorites to partner Eden Hazard and Oscar in the mid-field.

Yes, it would seem crazy to a lot of Chelsea fans to hear the selling of Juan Mata, but like I said before, he is a player that needs certainty when it comes to playing time and if that doesn’t come at Chelsea, Mata could definitely benefit for a move elsewhere. For which club he could join, I will leave that to the rumours you want to believe but I know for certain, with the amount of quality Juan Mata has, he will not settle for a season on the bench knowing that the World Cup is just around the corner.
