With speculation mounting about the future of Gareth Bale, reports are emerging with regards to a Tottenham approach for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.
According BBC Sport, Spurs have today made a move for a Chelsea player, widely believed to be the Spanish midfielder.
The news comes after Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was angered by Chelsea’s late swoop for Brazilian winger Willian, after the 25-year-old completed a medical at White Hart Lane.
Despite this the Spurs coach was quick to wish the player luck saying, 'he made a choice that he feels is important for the development of his career, good luck to him', reports the Daily Mail.
Villas-Boas would relish the opportunity to capture Mata, who proved to be a stand-out performer for Chelsea last season. The former Valencia man made 17 assists in 35 league appearances last year, along with an impressive tally of 12 goals.
Spurs may be quietly confident of negotiating a deal after rumours of a fall out with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho have surfaced recently. ESPN reports that the feud has arisen from a wage dispute and the player may be considering leaving.
The Spaniard has been highly sought after elsewhere this summer after suggestions in July about a potential move to Manchester United involving Wayne Rooney moving the opposite way.
