Manchester United are reported to have made an offer for Real Madrid's German play-maker Mesut Ozil as David Moyes looks to add more creativity in his midfield. Ozil was a target in the summer of 2010 but opted to join Madrid after Sir Alex Ferguson refused to meet the asking price for then Werder Bremen star.
According to Manu Sainz, a journalist from Spanish newspaper AS and Cadena SER, Manchester United has submitted a bid of €45m for the 24 year old magician. Cadena SER is the newspaper that broke the story of Thiago Alcantara going to Bayern Munich so the Manchester United fans will be hoping that this deal goes through.
Moyes has been chasing a big name all summer and has so far failed in his efforts to land Thiago and Cesc Fabregas. The Red Devils were also said to be interested in midfield schemer Luka Modric who is open to a move back to England. The long term injury to Xabi Alonso may well see Modric staying at the Santiago Bernabeau until next summer.
If this is in fact true and the Ozil deal goes through then many will question the future of Wayne Rooney. The England striker was said to be second choice to Robin van Persie and is keen to leave Old Trafford. Ozil would provide competition for the role behind the striker where Shinji Kagawa and Rooney are already vying for.
Moyes has said that he is under no pressure to add to the squad but will do so if the right players become available. The Red Devils are also linked with a move for Angel Di Maria and Fabio Coentrao all from Real Madrid.
