Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has moved to clear his name from the fire about the summer transfer saga involving Manchester United's star striker, Wayne Rooney.
The Portuguese manager has stated that he is not the one who let the 27-year-old striker feel unwanted, after David Moyes said he would be second choice to Robin van Persie.
The self-proclaimed 'Special One' wants to add the English striker to his squad and has been quite vocal about his desire to see Rooney in Chelsea blue.
The English striker is reportedly keen to join Chelsea as he seeks to play as a main striker - and it's clear that Rooney would be first-choice at Stamford Bridge should a move come to fruition.
When it was suggested that United fans wouldn't give Mourinho the warmest of receptions ahead of last night's 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, Mourinho told Sky Sports: "Why? They are against me? But I didn't say (to Rooney) you will be a second choice for me. And they are against me?
"We are trying to get a player that the manager told 'you will be a second option'. We are not going for (Robin) van Persie.
"They don't have to be against me. If I say Ramires is a second option for me and he plays when (Frank) Lampard is tired or injured, if somebody comes here to get Ramires, nobody is upset."
Mourinho had stated that Chelsea will make an official bid for Rooney after the match at Old Trafford, though Rooney's stand-out performance and post-match quotes from boss Moyes suggests the player is likely to remain in Manchester.
