Despite Gerardo Martino's insistence that Barcelona do not need to sign any more players this summer, a new centre-back must surely be high on the Spanish club's list of transfer priorities.
Numerous names have been linked with a move to Camp Nou, with defence highlighted as the squad's biggest weakness in the build up to the 2013/14 campaign.
But, after two La Liga games, Barca are the only team yet to concede a goal, which strengthens Martino's case that there is no need for any further additions, particularly with captain Carles Puyol nearing a return from injury.
"A new centre-back? I'm happy with the team I have," reflected the Argentine coach ahead of Barcelona's season opener against Levante. "There's always the January window if we need anything.
"Last year's problems in defence were the result of injuries. We have enough options if everybody's fit."
Another reason for Barcelona's failure to recruit a centre-back this summer could be down to the club's style of play, with Gerard Pique claiming earlier this month that players in that position rarely adapt well to their system.
"It's hard to find the right profile [of player] because our style of play is unique," the 26-year-old told a pre-season press conference in Thailand. "Experience says it's not easy to find a centre-back for Barca."
