Premier League duo Tottenham Hostpur and Liverpool are set to be dealt a blow after it has emerged that free-spending Monaco are favourites to sign powerful 6ft 8in striker, Lacina Traore.

According to reports from talkSPORT, moneybags AS Monaco are prepared to pay £15 million for the giant centre-forward from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, with Spurs and Liverpool missing out.

Traore has made a name for himself in the Russian leagues in recent seasons. Previously at Kuban Krasnodar where he scored 18 league goals in 38 appearances, the Ivory Coast international made the switch to Anzhi last year where he partnered Samuel Eto'o upfront, who, like Traore, may also be departing the club with Chelsea and Inter Milan reportedly battling it out for his signature.

Monaco's spending power this summer has already seen them spend big money on Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, as the club go through a mass transition period following their promotion back into Ligue 1.

Traore was previously seen as a potential target for Spurs and Liverpool with both clubs seeking to add to their striking options but it now seems that they will have to look to other choices available to them.
