They are the scourge of modern football. There aren’t many people who like them, including the players that they manage, but the super-agent is here to stay. The rise of the super-agent, has seen plenty of players move clubs, for one simple reason, money.

So in a summer that has seen plenty of big money moves, let us take a look at the men who made that possible. Here are some of the most influential people that rule the modern footballing landscape today.

4. Jonathan Barnett

Initially known around the world for helping launch Lennox Lewis’s career in boxing, Barnett made the news for an alleged wiretapping offence in 2006 and was later charged, during Ashley Cole’s transfer to Chelsea. He was flying under the radar after that, until very recently when his Client Gareth Bale is the subject of a €100m bid from Real Madrid.

After having played all his cards right, Barnett finds himself back in the big time once again, having orchestrated a move for Darren Bent only a week or so ago.

Major Clients: Ashley Cole, Gareth Bale, Joe Hart and Darren Bent

3. Mino Raiola

The mastermind behind journeyman Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s transfer across Spain and Italy, Raiola has started to establish himself as a key man in a lot of big deals so far this summer with his ever increasing clientele. His recent client, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move to Borussia Dortmund owed a lot to him.

Raiola is ruthless in his dealings. He also represents two of France’s most coveted midfielders, Paul Pogba and Etienne Capoue, who recently moved away from and to England respectively, whilst Edinson Cavani counts him as a trusted adviser.

Major Clients: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mario Balotelli and Etienne Capoue

2. Jorge Mendes

There are not many agents in the world that are as well-known and as well connected as Jorge Mendes, who has established himself as the king of football agents. Over the past decade or so, he has almost secured a monopoly on Portuguese football.

This summer, he has already secured big money moves for James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho, Radamel Falcao and Jose Mourinho, with a few more waiting in the wings.

Major Clients: Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Angel Di Maria

1. Kia Joorabchian

Whilst he is routinely described in the press as a football agent, Joorabchian is technically, not a licensed agent.

And his involvement although prohibited by the Football Association, can’t deny the fact that he has engineered and advised several deals, off the book and is one of the most influential person on the planet, when it comes to advising players on their rights and clubs on transfers and contracts.

Major Clients: Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Ramires
