Despite Chelsea’s strong start to this year’s Premier League season with the Blues picking up seven points from their first three games, many football fans are suggesting that new boss Jose Mourinho must yet bring in a big name striker.
Up to now, Chelsea have missed out on two of their targets in Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani in this transfer window, and with main man Fernando Torres still looking a shadow of the play he once was, bringing in a new front man would seem the obvious solution to the problem.
However, Jose doesn’t need to look elsewhere for a new main man as he already has one at his disposal - this is his young Belgian star Romelu Lukaku.
Despite being only 20-years-old, the hit-man has proved that he has what it takes to succeed in the top flight of English football during his recent loan spell with West Brom.
Lukaku managed 17 goals in 35 games for The Baggies last season in what was an extremely impressive campaign for both him and the Midlands’ club.
Mourinho’s decision to play new man Andre Schurrle up top on his own in Chelsea’s draw with Manchester United on Monday suggested that perhaps he doesn’t have a great deal of confidence in his other strikers.
If Torres and Ba are to continue to fail to impress their new boss, Jose is likely to give Lukaku a chance in the first-team.
Lukaku has also been likened to former Chelsea star Didier Drogba in the past which will no doubt work in his favour.
One chance could be enough for the Belgian who has the potential to be the key man at Stamford Bridge for many years to come.
