Liverpool survived an extra time scare from League Two side Notts County to seal their place in the third round of the Capital One cup. The game finished 4-2 to the Anfield side.
Brendan Rodgers picked a strong side to face their opponents and started brightly, youngster Raheem Sterling scored within four minutes after skipping past defenders and firing past Bartosz Bialkowski.
The game ended prematurely for debutant Aly Cissokho after injury, he was replaced by Danish defender Daniel Agger.
Daniel Sturridge continued his fine goal scoring form, firing under Bialkowski after a great pass from Steven Gerrard making the score 2-0.
But Notts County were not out of the tie and started their comeback on 62 minutes. French striker Yoann Arquin headed in after poor defending from the Reds, there was suspicions of offside.
Joe Allen was the next casualty, after the Welsh midfielder picked up a knock. He limped down the tunnel and was replaced by Jordan Henderson.
The comeback was complete six minutes from time, or so the Notts County fans thought. Adam Coombes cooly slotted in after a pull back from Yoann Arquin, the match was going into extra time.
Liverpool took the lead once again after a counter attack, Countinho played in Sturridge who made no mistake in firing in their third goal and his second of the match.
Their fourth came from substitute Jordan Henderson after a brilliant piece of skill before sliding the ball under the oncoming Bialkowski. Full time came and the Premier League side had won 4-2.
The Reds now have some injury worries for their game against Manchester United on Sunday, Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho were subbed and the Reds finished with 10 men after Kolo Toure was stretchered off in injury time bearing in mind they had already made all three substitutions.
