Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Angel di Maria, after he reiterated his intentions to see out his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, reports Sky Sports.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Spain this summer, and the Premier League has been touted as a potential destination.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been credited with an interest in bringing Di Maria to the Emirates Stadium, as he looks to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window next week.
Galatasaray were set to rival Arsenal for the Argentina international's signature, however both clubs will now have to turn their attentions to alternative targets, after Di Maria ruled out any possibility of leaving Real Madrid this summer.
"I understand that the club is strengthening and they are precise in what they do," he is quoted by AS. "But I signed up to 2018 just a year ago and my desire is to stay in the Bernabeu."
Di Maria delivered a man of the match performance in Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Granada on Monday evening, earning praise from his manager Carlo Ancelotti, and also strengthening his position that he still has plenty to offer the first-team.
