Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects Jack Wilshere to face Tottenham Hotspur despite ankle problem.
Arsene Wenger has moved to calm Arsenal fans’ fears over the fitness of Jack Wilshere ahead of Sunday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
Wilshere returned to the Arsenal side for last night’s Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce, despite nursing a persistent ankle problem which requires constant supervision from Gunners medical staff.
The Frenchman believes that Wilshere will overcome a knock suffered against Fenerbahce, despite the England midfielder being on the receiving end of some tough tackling during the comfortable 2-0 win.
He told the club’s official website: “Jack should be alright for Sunday and I’m hopeful on Aaron Ramsey as well.
“Yes, the two tackles on Wilshere were disappointing. I cannot change it now. He looks alright”
The Gunners will definitely be without striker Lukas Podolski for the season’s first North London derby, after the forward pulled up with a hamstring problem last night that will keep him sidelined for at least three weeks.
In-form midfielder Aaron Ramsey will also be monitored this week after coming off late on against Fenerbahce, with Wenger deciding that the Welshman needed a breather in the closing stages.
