With Gareth Bale's transfer to Real Madrid looming large, Tottenham are set to significantly strengthen their squad.

The Mirror report that Spurs are looking to add to their midfield department with Christian Eriksen, Ever Banega and Hernanes as their prime targets.

Sources suggest that Lazio would like to keep hold of Brazil international Hernanes but he is yet to sign a new deal with the Italian club. Sources understand that Hernanes is looking to join a new club, despite Lazio chairman telling Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: "Until today no one has knocked on our door for Hernanes.

"Getting rid of Hernanes is not our intention; we intend to keep him."

A bid close to £20m could be lodged by Spurs in an attempt to bring further reinforcements to their midfield, but technical director Franco Baldini has highlighted Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen as their number one target.

Ajax are said to be holding out for £12m for the Denmark international and have told Spurs to improve on their £7m offer that they reportedly lodged for the 21-year-old.
