Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

The Daily Star have reported that City Manuel Pellegrini is not prepared to let a defender leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

Therefore, the Citizens will reject an bid that comes in for the England international. And, despite Richards having had difficult campaign at City last season, only making seven league appearances, he could yet have a key role to play under the Chilean boss.

The Gunners have also been heavily linked with Wales and Swansea star Ashley Williams, as Arsene Wenger looks to sure up his defensive options.

And, with a reported £70 million available to the Frenchman, he could yet make an offer for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.

The Gunners confirmed their place in this year's Champions League group stages last night as they beat Fenerbahce 2-0 to claim a 5-0 aggregate win against their Turkish opponents.
