Michael Carrick | Manchester United

Football News

A man who has been rather more limited when it comes to national caps than his abilities would suggest, in part down to the Lampard/Gerrard dominance over the central midfield role, Carrick stands to come into his own this year.

Finally recognised as one of the most important players available, both for his club and country, the United passing maestro could well be the glue that holds what is in truth a relatively unsteady England side together.

If on form Carrick is more than capable of unlocking the tightest of defences, and seeing as though England are lacking in world-class talent, his skills will be of paramount importance.

Not an unexpected choice in terms of his squad status, but Carrick could well prove to be indispensable next year.
