Brazil 2014: Five unlikely England heroes (1)

Published Add your comment

It's sometimes difficult for players to find their way into their national squads, even if their club careers are nothing short of brilliant.

National selection pools, particularly in prominent nations, are often so bulging with talent that a lot of players that would happily walk into other nations starting elevens, don't get a look in for their own.

Fortunately, for England, that's not the case.

With the ushering out of the 'golden era', the stalwarts of the last decade are one by one dropping out eligibility for international duty, very much marking a transitional period for the national squad.

This makes is harder for Roy Hodgson in terms of who is to provide a strong spine, made all the more important with the World Cup on the horizon.

GMS takes a look at five players who haven't reaped the rewards of international glory just yet, but could have their moment in the limelight should England make it to Brazil.
