AJ Lee promo is good news for the women's division
WWE's diva contingent set to take centre stage after Lee's outburst on RAW
AJ Lee's pipebomb on Monday Night Raw has the WWE Universe buzzing with excitement as to what is next for the women of wrestling.
I myself thought it was the greatest divas promo ever cut because every word she said was true. The Divas needed this proverbial kick up the backside because their matches have been dire lately.
For those who didn't get to see it, here is her speech in it's entirety:
"O-M-G you guys! I just watched last night's episode of Total Divas, and it was insane- oh my gosh! The Bellas were dealing with their obvious daddy issues. The Funkadactyls broke up, and then got back together again. Natalya's fiancé isn't much of a man... And the other two were also there. It was great, it really was, and it was the end of the world, and it's all on Sunday nights on the E! network! Ah!
Do you want to know what I see when I look in that ring? Honestly? A bunch of cheap, interchangeable, expendable, useless women. Women who have turned to reality television because they just weren't gifted enough to be actresses. And they just weren't talented enough to be champion!
I have saved your Divas division. I have shattered glass ceilings. I have broken down doors. Why? So a bunch of ungrateful, plastic mannequins can waltz on through without so much as a thank you? You guys can't even go backstage and shake my hand and look me in the eye, because you know that I worked my entire life to get here. I gave my life to this, and you were just handed fifteen minutes of fame.
I didn't get here because I was cute, or because I came from some famous wrestling family, or because I sucked up to the right people. I got here because I am good. I earned this championship, and no matter how many red carpets you guys wanna walk on in four-thousand dollar, ridiculous heels, you will never be able to lace up my Chuck Taylor's.
You're all worthless excuses for women. And you will never be able to touch me. And that, is reality."
Like I said, all of the above is true. With the exception of Natalya and Trinity, every diva she was referring to was hired because of their looks. The Bella twins actually stated on Total Divas that they were only hired because they were twins.
With a little bit of training, the Bella's could be a force in the ring but it doesn't seem like they are improving and poor Natalya has had to step in the ring with Brie on two separate occasions in two weeks and the matches have been some of the worst I have ever seen.
As for Jojo and Eva Marie, I think they were definitely hired for their looks. It is worrying when you have the likes of Paige and Emma on NXT who really can wrestle and they are shoved onto the supplement show to make room for "the reality show girls".
Even Summer Rae is a better wrestler than the Bellas and she has been relegated to dancing and cheering for Fandango.
I feel like Total Divas is a great show. I like the insight into their lives and it's good to see what happens behind the scenes but if it is going to take attention away from the girls who deserve it and put it onto girls that can't fight and make me cringe when I watch them then it needs to be re-thought.
The news now is that this will build into a feud between AJ and one of the total Divas and lead to a match at Night of Champions. The segment was filmed for Total Divas and will be used as part of the E show and my only hope is that AJ does not drop her title to any of the talentless crew. The only diva worthy is Natalya and WWE don't seem to want to push her at all.
All I can say is it will be a massive mistake if the woman I feel is the future of the divas division is beaten by women who don't even care about the business they represent.
