Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has thanked Manchester United fans for their ‘unbelievable’ support during the match against Chelsea on Monday night.

The England international forward was starting his first game of the season after coming on as a substitute in the 4-1 win against Swansea City, and produced an impressive display under new manager David Moyes.

After much transfer speculation this summer, the Red Devils supporters certainly showed Rooney what they think of him with a fantastic reception at Old Trafford, and the 27-year-old has let the fans know he appreciates their backing.

“It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you. I really appreciate your support. It means a lot,” he told his official Facebook page.

Jose Mourinho has publicly courted Rooney this summer, but saw the former Everton starlet produce an impressive display behind Robin Van Persie in a 4-2-3-1 formation at Old Trafford on Monday night.

And, with time ticking away in this summer's transfer window, the Manchester United supporters will be hoping they can give Rooney another fantastic reception when they host Crystal Palace on September 14th.
