Italian defender scores 60-yard stunner

Italian defender Davide Giampa followed in the footsteps of David Beckham with an incredible 60-yard goal for Wohlen against FC Schaffhausen in the Swiss Challenge League.

The incident took place in the third minute of the match, as the team that sits second-bottom looked to cause an upset against the league leaders.

His effort was reminiscent of the goal scored by Beckham back in 1997, when the then Manchester United starlet lobbed Neil Sullivan in a 3-0 win over Wimbledon.

Beckham went on to enjoy a stellar career for club and country, but whilst 20-year-old Giampa has time on his side, it’s unlikely he’ll be following in the footsteps of Goldenballs.

For the record, Giampa’s stunning goal was in vain, as Wohlen succumbed to a 3-2 defeat. Patrick Rossini, Marco Mangold and Gianluca Frontino turned the game around for Schaffhausen, with Simone Rapp’s 87th minute effort for the hosts a mere consolation.

Forget the details though, it’s Giampa’s goal which should be of interest. First seen on 101 Great Goals, check out the stunning strike at the top of this story…
