Tottenham target Javier Hernandez

Tottenham have made approach to Manchester United to sign their Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, reports the Daily Mirror.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bolster his attacking options and wants to sign the clinical Mexico international before the transfer window shuts on September 2.

Tottenham are poised to complete the signing of AS Roma star Erik Lamela, breaking the club's transfer record for the third time this summer.

Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli have all have already arrived at White Hart Lane, and the north London outfit are closing in on Romania defender Vlad Chiriches for £9m and Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Hernandez, 25, has been lacking first team action at Manchester United but snubbed a move to Spanish side Valencia earlier this month.

The striker wants fight for his position at United and is eager to continue his career at Old Trafford - but the Red Devils might be tempted to sell if they receive an offer of around £15m.
