Erik Lamela has explained why he felt compelled to leave Roma in order to join Tottenham.
The Argentinian is on the verge of completing his move to north London after jetting into complete a medical yesterday. Roma have announced they have agreed to the sale of the 21-year-old for €30 million, plus an extra €5 million in add-ons.
Lamela spent two seasons with Roma, scoring 15 goals in Serie A last season.
Despite his best efforts Roma could only finish 6th and lost out to rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia final last term, and Lamela hinted that a lack of ambition was the reason behind his departure from the Stadio Olimpico.
“Perhaps I wasn’t able to express all I could’ve and wanted to do here," Lamela told ANSA.
"It’s also true that there was something missing for the whole team.
“I hope this season will go better. I saw the lads are hungry to do well and are very concentrated. I wish the club, the coach and my team-mates to go as far as possible."
Spurs also look to be on the verge of wrapping up deals with Romanian international Vald Chariches and Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen.
