Cristiano Ronaldo has decided to snub Thursday's UEFA 2012-13 Best Player in Europe ceremony despite being nominated for the award, according to a report by Marca and AS.
Ronaldo has been shortlisted for the award along with Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, however the Portuguese forward has decided not to travel to Monaco.
The former Manchester United star will instead face Trofeo Teresa in a friendly match at Deportivo La Coruna, which will prove hugely embarrassing to UEFA.
The winner of the award will be announced during the Champions League third round draw which takes place in Monaco at 4:45pm.
A Real Madrid source told Spanish media outlet AS: “It is a pity that all is happening at the same time, but Cristiano does not have the gift of bilocation.
“We would like it if he could be in both places, but it is impossible.”
Ronaldo finished behind Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta in last year's ceremony and Argentine international Messi the year before.
A select group of sports journalists will decide who wins the prestigious award during this afternoon's live draw.
