Chelsea are set to sign Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer, according to BBC Sport.

The club are expected to announce the signing very soon and apparently the 32-year-old has signed a one-year deal.

This deal more or less ends speculation regarding Wayne Rooney's future as Chelsea have now found a replacement in the form of Eto'o.

The Cameroonian star started his career at Real Madrid where he only made three league appearances making no real impact. He then joined Mallorca and began to grow as a striker, scoring 48 goals in 120 appearances.

However his career really got going when he joined Spanish giants Barcelona for a fee of €24million in 2004. This began a five-year spell with the club where he scored 108 goals in just 145 matches.

After this, he had spells at Inter Milan and Anzhi where he still scored regularly and still put in consistent performances.

Recently however, Anzhi have began to cut back on their costs and have had to let go of many of their great players including Willian who also joined Chelsea just a few days ago.

Despite all of his success in the past, does Eto'o have what it takes to step up to the mark and prove himself in the Premier League. He may be getting older but many believe he still has the potential to shine. Only time will tell.

The question is though - does he have what it takes to solve the striker crisis at Chelsea or will he be another flop?
