Erik Lamela set to star at Tottenham

Erik Lamela looks set to join Tottenham - unless of course Chelsea sneak in a cheeky hijack once again! 

A skilful 21-year-old, Lamela has plenty of time to develop into a world class act, and could potentially become another "Gareth Bale" at Tottenham. He can play on either flank, and can also potentially play as a forward, partnering Roberto Soldado at Spurs. 

The 21-year-old joined Italian club Roma from Argentinian side River Plate in a fee believed to be in the region of £12m.

Still just 19 at the time, Lamela found it difficult to find the net in his first season in Italy with a total of six goals in 31 appearances.

However, the following season, Lamela significantly improved by netting a tally of 15 goals in 33 appearances. His promising performances brought attention from clubs around Europe, but it looks like Tottenham have won the race for his signature.
