Arsenal need singings to progress in Champions League

Today's Champions League draw has excited many fans ahead of some great fixtures this season, mainly coming from Arsenal's Group F and Barcelona's Group H.

Last year's runners up Borussia Dortmund are one of the teams to be included in Group F, alongside French team Marseille and Italian side Napoli.

Having qualified for the Champions League through two promising victories against Turkish side Fenerbahce, Arsenal's morale has increased and they were looking forward to the prospect of yet another season in Europe's elite competition.

Manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club will be involved in some transfer activity ahead of the much anticipated deadline day, and today saw the Gunners re-sign free agent Mathieu Flamini.

However, Arsenal have still been reluctant to invest money on much-needed signings, but have been strongly linked with Real Madrid duo Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema, after the pair may be unsettled by the Gareth Bale deal.

Arsenal may have to start splashing the cash if they want to secure a place in the next round of the Champions League as Dortmund have retained the services of Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus, whilst Napoli purchased Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain.

Arsenal have looked promising in the previous games with players such as Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud raising their game. However, Arsene Wenger is dealing with a small squad and it may become difficult to pick a starting eleven of fully fit players.

The injuries have hit Arsenal significantly so far this season with Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain facing the sidelines for a lengthy period of time. Wenger may have to start playing second team players for cover, and this is something that should not be conducted when playing in this year's Champions League, should they want to progress into the next round.

As things stand, Arsenal should be nervy of the threat that the other teams bring, but if reinforcements are brought to the club in the coming days, the gunners could survive in their tough group stage and progress significantly in this year's Champions League.
