Franck Ribery has won the UEFA Best Player award for 2012/13, beating fellow contenders Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the process, reports Reuters.com.
Ribery had played an integral and unparalleled part in Bayern Munich's previous season campaign, helping the German giants to win the treble of UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and the German Cup.
The inaugural award was won by Lionel Messi in 2011, when it was instituted by UEFA, followed by his teammate Andres Iniesta next season.
Both Messi and Ronaldo had made the top three in each of the earlier two seasons.
Ribery was the first player from a club other than Barcelona or Real Madrid to make the final three since the award was first established by European soccer's governing body.
The German media had carried widespread reports yesterday, citing that the France international has a better chance of winning the award than either Messi or Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's Real Madrid were defeated in the semi-finals by Borussia Dortmund, and Messi's Barcelona were thrashed by eventual winners Bayern Munich.
