Liverpool can be title challengers with Fernando Torres

With speculation at Chelsea rife over the possibility of Wayne Rooney arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer, question marks have been placed over the future of Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

This news has alerted several potential new suitors in the Premier League and Europe, with his old club Liverpool a potential destination.

Torres enjoyed a highly successful spell at Liverpool from 2007-2011, where he netted 65 times in 102 appearances for the Reds, before signing for Chelsea for £50 million.

Although failing to win the trophies he desired during his spell on Merseyside, Liverpool will certainly still be a club close to his heart and one that has given him many fond memories and helped him to vastly progress his career.

Should he leave Chelsea, therefore, a return to Anfield could be on the cards. If this were to materialise, Liverpool could once again become a true force to be reckoned with, and begin an assault on the Premier League's top spots.

Whilst it is unclear whether he would be able to replicate the form he showed during his first tenure at Liverpool, it is without question that he would add significant strength to a youthful, refreshed and dangerous attacking line-up that Reds manager Brendan Rogers now has at his disposal.

Linking up once again with club captain Steven Gerrard could spell danger for Premier League defences, with the potential for the Spaniard to play alongside the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Stirling sure to make the Anfield faithful's mouths water.

Should he return, Liverpool fans should be wary of the dreaded "this could be our year" syndrome, yet a rejuvenated El Nino combined with the experience and energy that the Reds now boast could just turn Rodgers' side from top-four hopefuls into serious contenders.
