Manchester United to bid £40m for Everton stars

Manchester United will make a final £40m bid for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Toffees slammed a previous £28m bid from the Red Devils as "insulting and derisory" - but it's believed that this latest offer could force Everton's hand.

United boss David Moyes is keen to bring Fellaini and Baines, who he managed at Goodison Park for several seasons before he left the club in May, to Old Trafford with just three days left before the summer transfer window closes.

The Premier League champions have only made one signing this summer - 20-year-old Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela - and have missed out on several big-name targets including Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara.

However, it's reported that both Fellaini and Baines are keen to leave the Toffees in order to play Champions League football under their former manager.

Belgium international Fellaini and England left-back Baines enjoyed arguably their best seasons at Everton last term - but both could sign for the Red Devils before the international break.
