Atletico Madrid and former club Borussia Dortmund have reportedly been interested in the prospect of signing Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa during this transfer window but his agent has confirmed that he will be sticking with his current club, Premier League champions Manchester United.
With Kagawa's lack of first-team opportunities in a United shirt, it was suggested that he may be regretting his decision to join the Red Devils and, with Dortmund looking to bring him back to Germany after only one season, it seemed he was on his way out.
That's not the case according to Shinji's agent, Thomas Kroth. He reports that Shinji is very happy at Manchester United and more than willing to fight for his place in the team.
"Because of the Confederations Cup, he did not have a full pre-season and therefore still has a training deficit," Kroth told ESPN.
"That's why he, until now, has won hardly any playing time."
A #freeshinji campaign was started on Twitter by Dortmund fans hoping to persuade the club and the player to secure Kagawa's return to Germany, where it all began.
With Manchester United still in the market for a creative midfielder, possibly someone like Mesut Ozil or David Moyes' ex-companion Marouane Fellaini, Kagawa's long-term future at United seems uncertain to say the least
