Haye and Fury bout generates US interest

The all-British mega fight set to take place at the Manchester Arena on the 28th September between David "Hayemaker" Haye and Tyson Fury will be shown live on HBO in the U.S.

The Americans have been crying out for a good Heavyweight since the era of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. And since the retirement of Lennox Lewis the big TV companies over there have rarely shown top level Heavyweight action.

That's because the decline of the American Heavyweight boxing scene followed the rise of the more cautious and upright eastern European Heavyweight style - a style that the American audiences have struggled to find entertainment in.

It doesn't quite match the fighting philosophy of their own great Heavyweight fighters throughout history such as Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sonny Liston, Muhammad Ali etc.

So now they seem to be turning towards the British Heavyweight scene for some entertaining fights between the big guys.

It gives Haye and Fury a huge opportunity to make names for themselves over in the States and with that added popularity surely a world title fight for the winner will follow.

Fury actually fought last time out in New York's famed Madison Square Garden and Haye's fight with Wladimir Klitschko was also shown on HBO, so neither are complete strangers to the American boxing fans.

The problem was it was a poor fight and even poorer performance from Haye when he fought Klitschko and at the time it seemed like there may not be a way back into the American big time boxing show for the "Hayemaker". But following a dominant and entertaining performance against Dereck Chisora last year and his new rivalry with Tyson Fury making headlines in Britain, it seems like HBO are ready to give Haye another shot.

Tyson Fury's last fight on the other hand, did not disappoint in the way that Haye-Klitschko did. He left the American audience pleased with what they had seen after he climbed off the canvas to defeat former Cruiserweight world Champion Steve Cunningham in a good back and forth fight.

This fight promises to be action packed and the build up will be very entertaining too so I completely understand why the Americans want in on this action and the more exposure our guys get over there, the better for it will be for British Boxing.
