Liverpool are reportedly preparing to formalise their interest in Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho as the club attempt to sign further defensive reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Sakho for a number of weeks and, according to talkSPORT, an official move for the France international is edging closer with the transfer deadline only three days away.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to part with £11 million in order to capture the 23-year-old, with injury to Kolo Toure prompting Brendan Rodgers to explore the possibility of recruiting another central defender.
Toure had enjoyed an impressive start to his Liverpool career, with the club keeping two clean sheets in the first two Premier League wins, but the Ivorian suffered a groin strain during the midweek Capital One Cup victory against Notts County.
Sakho may now be signed to reinforce a defence already without recently retired Jamie Carragher and Uruguay international Sebastien Coates, who was recently confirmed as a long-term absentee.
Liverpool, however, will not be afford a free run at Sakho, who is also wanted by Italian clubs Roma and AC Milan.
The Anfield club, though, lead the race for the player, with Roma only willing to spend £4.2 million and Milan interested in a loan deal.
