Chelsea duo omitted from Spain squad

Chelsea's Juan Mata and Fernando Torres have been left out of Vicente del Bosque's latest Spain squad, according to Sky Sports.

Spain are currently winning the race to top Group I, however the World Cup and European Championship winners are just a point ahead of France.

Spain and Finland drew their previous Group I encounter back in March at the Vicente Calderon, which makes the exclusion of Mata and Torres even more surprising.

Both players have rarely featured for Chelsea since Jose Mourinho's arrival at the club, which has consequently led to the duo being linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.

Reports had suggested Mata would be allowed to leave Chelsea given the fact Mourinho had recently signed Willian - but the Portuguese manager has since refuted those claims.

On the other hand, Torres is set to face stiff competition from summer signing Samuel Eto'o for a place in Chelsea's starting line-up.

The news of the pair being dropped could fuel speculation that both Mata and Torres may be looking for moves away from Stamford Bridge, in order to cement a regular place in Del Bosque's squad ahead of next summer's World Cup in Brazil.
