According to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Manchester United have made a €30 million bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.

United’s move for the 24-year-old has come just days after they failed with a £36m double bid for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, however it is understood that their bid for Herrera is independent and they are still in pursuit of the Toffees’ pair.

After failed bids for Cesc Fabregas, Herrera has become the third midfielder the Red Devils’ have tried to prise to Old Trafford this summer, however it is likely that United’s first bid will be rejected as the player is thought to have a €36m release clause in his contract.

If United are successful in their bid for Herrera, who has been a very impressive player for Athletic since he joined from Real Zaragoza in 2011, the Spaniard will be the third big name to leave Bilbao in the past two seasons, with Javi Martinez leaving for Bayern Munich last year and Fernando Llorente moving to Juventus this summer.

If Herrera joins Manchester United, he will definitely bolster the team’s midfield. Herrera is known to be a strong player who is confident to go on skilful runs with the ball, while he also has great passing ability.

Bilbao will want to keep their star midfielder, however with the prospect of Champions League football at Old Trafford and with this being a step up in his footballing career, it is unlikely that Herrera would reject the opportunity to move to the Premier League giants.
