Tottenham Hostpur have agreed a deal to sign 23-year-old centre half Vlad Chiriches.
The defender finally put pen-to-paper on a five year-deal after Steaua Bucuresti and Tottenham were able to agree a deal believed to be in the region of £9million last week.
Chiriches flew into Heathrow airport yesterday for a medical at London's medical facility Holly-house hospital.
Initially, Spurs had been stopped in their tracks when Steaua's controversial owner Gigi Becali intervened to prevent the deal from going through, oddly enough from his prison cell.
Becali said:]“Until winter he will not leave under any circumstances. This could be a blow to Chiriches, but he should understand.
"He owes a lot to Steaua. Things are good, we are in qualifying for the Champions League. We are in good shape.”
The 6ft1 Romanian has 43 international caps and spent three seasons at Steaua Bucuresti accumulating four goals from 62 appearances for the Romanian side.
Marking his international debut against Luxembourg in September. In his early career Chiriches started out as a midfielder before even playing as a striker at Ardealul Cluj.
He becomes Tottenham's fifth signing of the summer window alongside the likes of Roberto Soldado and Nacer Chadli. Spurs also announced the signing of Erik Lamela from Roma earlier today and are expected to sign Christian Eriksen from Ajax in the coming days.
