Manchester United have the luxury of welcoming back a fully fit Nemanja Vidic this season, having been without the inspirational Serbian for much of the last two campaigns.

Vidic has played only 25 Premier League matches in the past two seasons, meaning his responsibility as captain has been shared among various Manchester United players.

Patrice Evra was the official deputy of Vidic under Sir Alex Ferguson, although his position as vice-captain may come under threat should Manchester United secure the signature of Leighton Baines before the transfer deadline.

The potential arrival of Baines at Old Trafford raises question's about Evra's longevity in the starting left-back berth and, should the England international sign, the long-serving United star may have to relinquish the back-up captaincy duties.

This possibility places David Moyes in a quandary regarding the captaincy should Vidic's injury curse strike once again, and the new Manchester United manager may be encouraged to identify his next leader.
